Now entering its third year, Ballarat Tech School's STEM Academy program is expanding in 2027 with the introduction of our brand-new Information Technology Academy, joining our established Engineering Academy.

First launched in 2025, the STEM Academy program gives students the opportunity to take their STEM interests further through hands-on learning, industry experiences and connections with professionals working in the field.

Bringing together like-minded students from across our partner schools, each Academy offers a unique opportunity to explore real-world challenges, develop new skills and discover future study and career pathways.

Who Can Participate?

The STEM Academies are open to interested students from Ballarat Tech School's partner schools who are keen to explore STEM beyond the traditional classroom.

While the Academies are a natural next step for students who have participated in our Girls and Boys in STEM programs, previous participation is not required.

Students can self-nominate for the Academy that best matches their interests - link at bottom of the page.

Students may participate in one Academy per year but are welcome to explore a different Academy in subsequent years.

Engineering Academy

Design. Create. Solve
Discover what it takes to be an engineer! Work alongside engineering professionals, visit industry sites and tackle hands-on challenges inspired by real-world engineering problems. Explore different engineering disciplines and discover where your problem-solving skills could take you.

Information Technology Academy

Build. Code. Connect
Explore the rapidly evolving world of information technology! Get hands-on with computer building, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence (AI), visit local IT businesses and meet professionals working across the industry. Discover the technologies shaping our future and the exciting pathways available in IT.

2027 Information Technology Dates:
Day 1: Thursday 29 April
Day 2: Friday 30 April
Day 3: Wednesday 18 August
Day 4: Thursday 19 August
 

Students will

  • Explore STEM in action:
    Develop practical skills in Engineering or Information Technology, and problem-solving through real-world challenges.
     
  • Connect with industry experts:
    Learn from STEM professionals and discover how science and technology are applied in the workplace.
     
  • Discover future pathways:
    Explore how STEM skills connect to further education, emerging technologies and exciting careers.
     
  • Collaborate, create and innovate:
    Work with like-minded students to design solutions, share ideas and build confidence, teamwork and creative thinking.
     
Academy Registrations

Students are encouraged to register their interest in a STEM Academy via the application form.  

School approval will be confirmed before acceptance into the program.
