2024 Leaders are now open!

The Girls in STEM Student Leadership program is a key element of the successful Ballarat Tech School Girls in STEM (GIS) program.

The Leadership program enhances the experience for all GIS participants and provides a pathway for students keen to continue building on their STEM and personal leadership skills. The focus of the program is on active leadership and communication growth, with opportunities to meet industry mentors and build STEM networks.

Participants of the 2023 Girls in STEM program who are keen to continue their GIS journey by supporting others, leading by example, and learning new skills are encouraged to apply for the 2024 GIS Student Leader program.

Duration

Student Leaders time commitment over the year:

8 x Girls in STEM programs days (2 days each term)
3 x Student Leadership Days (1 day in Term 1, Term 2, and Term 3)
Various optional events and opportunities as they arise during the year

Roles & Responsibilities

Student Leaders work closely with Tech School staff carrying out tasks that include:

Welcoming student participants and assisting them as needed
Role modelling engagement and networking skills
Welcoming, introducing and thanking special guests
Facilitating small group participant activities
Identifying and supporting participants struggling with aspects of the program
Developing leadership and STEM skill
Communication: public speaking, conversation
Collaboration: teamwork, empathy, encouragement
Tech Skills: laser cutting, 3D printing, studio recording, coding
Carrying out activities and duties as they arise at the request of the Girls in STEM Co-ordinator within the scope of the Student Leadership role.
