Koorie Motion Lab is back for 2026, and we’re really excited to be running the program twice this year so even more students can get involved. This two day experience brings together Koorie students from Years 6 and 7 for hands on activities, cultural learning, and plenty of fun. The program will run in Term 3 (8–9 September) and Term 4 (17–18 November) at the Ballaarat Tech School.

This year, the program focuses on marngrook, the traditional Indigenous ball game that helped inspire modern Aussie Rules. Over the two days, students will take part in practical workshops, including making their own leather wallets, along with outdoor activities inspired by marngrook. We’re also hoping to have a local footballer drop in to kick the footy around and share some stories.

Koorie Motion Lab is delivered with the support of the Department of Education’s Koorie Education Workforce, Federation University Aboriginal Education Centre, VAEAI and our local community partners. Together, we’ve designed a program that gives students the chance to learn new skills, connect with others, and celebrate culture in a safe and supportive space.

The experience also helps students prepare for their transition into Year 7 by building confidence, teamwork, and leadership. Across the two days, students meet new friends, build cultural pride, and engage in learning that feels meaningful and enjoyable. It’s a great opportunity for young people to create, yarn, play, and be part of something that strengthens community connections.
