Coming later in 2025, this future focused VCE Chemistry program is an important pathway for students to develop an understanding of how we use chemical reactions such as redox in industry, and the principles that play an important role in various technologies including those used in design and production of renewable energy storage systems.

Students will assemble, test and modify a range of electro-chemical cell types including a Lithium-ion coin cells, Hydrogen fuel cells and Vanadium flow reactors. The principles underpinning each technology will be visualised in a way that allows students to appreciate otherwise abstract concepts such as redox reactions introduced in Unit 2 AOS 1&3.

The program will also provide the opportunity to undertake the experimental component of the Scientific Investigation SAC for Units 3/4.

Students will

  • Assemble, charge and test flow batteries to understand their performance under different conditions
  • Consolidate important laboratory safety skills and techniques through testing outputs
  • Practically investigate and implement key chemistry concepts including Stoichiometry and Redox Reactions
  • Develop specific knowledge of skills and technologies used in the clean energy sector
