Coming later in 2025, this program’s centre piece is a scaled, connected and functional representation of a smart city, built out of Lego with critical infrastructure and recognisable local Ballarat landmarks.

Cyber City is run by students on a real time cyber security network that protects its functions, including renewable energy generation and storage to power lights, buildings, trains and more. Splitting into two teams, half the class will be tasked with running and protecting the city from cyber threats while the other half attempts to hack the system and cause chaos!

This hands on and interactive program uses industry leading gamification and “live fire” simulation techniques to introduce the importance of future energy networks and the online security that protects them.

Students will

  • Be introduced to different clean energy sources and future energy storage options
  • Learn the fundamentals of Cyber Security threats and protection techniques
  • Build technical, operational and collaborative competencies in cyber security and energy system knowledge
  • Develop communication and teamwork skills required in professional environments
